V.I. DOE Revises St. Croix Schools Participating in LANTEX

Arthur A. Richards and Pearl B. Larsen Schools to Hold Evacuation Drills

The VI Department of Education has revised the St. Croix schools participating in the Caribe Wave/LANTEX tsunami exercise on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Arthur A. Richards Junior High School and Pearl B. Larsen Elementary Schools are now scheduled to conduct evacuation drills. Previously Elena Christian Junior High School and Juanita Gardine Elementary School, in addition to Arthur A. Richards Junior High School, were set to participate. The changes were due to a scheduling conflict.

No changes have been made to the St. Thomas-St. John district schools participating in the exercise. Those schools are Julius Sprauve School on St. John and Ivanna Eudora Kean High School and Addelita Cancryn Junior High School on St. Thomas.

LANTEX, a Caribbean region exercise, simulates a widespread Tsunami Warning and Watch situation throughout the Caribbean which requires implementation of local tsunami response plans. The exercise is being sponsored the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and several other regional, national and international organizations.

As part of exercise play, VITEMA will test notification protocols and activate the Tsunami Warning Siren System territorywide at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25.
